Summer Volunteer Job Descriptions

Thank you for volunteering!!

This year, volunteer positions are available to our student leaders as well as adults. Student Leaders must be in Grade 7 and up and may only volunteer at any of our Kids Camps for Grades 3 – 6.

Student Leaders:  All students aged 18 and under should NOT fill out a volunteer form. Please fill out a summer student registration and indicate which camps you would like to volunteer as a student leader at.  YOU MUST ATTEND the teen camp offered during that term in order to be a student leader at the kids camps offered that term.

All job descriptions include the following:

• Commitment and punctuality
• Do not incur any expenses without prior written approval. All expenses must fit within the budget (see Sharon)
• Fill out all required forms
• Attend volunteer meeting: Wednesday June 24, 6 – 8:30pm – Please bring a drink or dessert or fruit plate. Thanks!

Basic Camp Structure:
Students will be led through developmental skills in 40 minute blocks.  Snack will be served during the time our Special Speaker shares.  Games times will shake out the energy and allow students to let loose.  Students will be grouped in a small group of 5 with one Student Leader and possibly one Jr Leader.  This group of 5 will travel with one other small group of 5.

Adult Small Group Leaders: (criminal record check required for anyone over 18)
Small Group leaders are responsible to mentor and assist the Student Leaders they are assigned to.  In some cases there will also be a Jr Student Leader in your group.  Please support and encourage your students with kindness and wisdom.  Pray for them and seek advice from staff if you have concerns.
Things to watch for:
– Active or Distracted Students
– Building Team Spirit
– Distractions that can be eliminated
– Clarity in how your Student Leader Teaches
– Keeping our Main Objectives a Priority

Small Group leaders should be enthusiastic and encouraging as the students and student leaders learn and demonstrate new skills.

Snack Coordinator (1):
The snack coordinator must email volunteers and ask for people to sign up to make snacks. They must coordinate all snack makers for the week and ensure that either they or another volunteer ensures the arrival, set up and clean up of snacks each day.

Daily Snacks (4):
The snack helpers must make snacks for their assigned day(s), communicate clearly with the snack coordinator, and make sure they or another volunteer ensures the arrival, set up and clean up of the snacks on their assigned day(s).

Sound Operator and Mentor (1): (criminal record check required if over 18)
This person will run the sound for various songs and games throughout the week and for the skits on the Thursday performance. They will mentor one or more student leaders in how to operate the sound equipment.

Lunch Preparation and Presentation (5):
On Thursdays we end off the week with a yummy lunch and show! The lunch will be for all students, and parents will arrive after lunch for the show. Hot dogs, chilli, buns and condiments will need to be purchased, prepared and served. Families will be asked to send a salad, dessert or drink and these must be displayed appropriately. Paper plates, cutlery and cups must be purchased and displayed conveniently. Receipts from purchases made MUST be presented to Sharon or Teagan for reimbursement.

Photographer (1):
Photographers must “capture the moments”! Our students love to see pictures of themselves at a slide show at the end of the camp. Photgraphers must create this slide show and make preparations needed to show it on the final day. Pictures must be taken on the final day as well. These pictures will also be used on our Facebook pages, advertisements and on our website, so copies of them must be given to Sharon as soon as possible.

Volunteers that are extensively involved in camps (e.g. small group leader, etc.) can apply to have one student registered for FREE! Please contact Teagan (teaplett@gmail.com) to see if you are eligible.
