About Us

Jesters Theatre is operated by Youth Unlimited and was launched in September 2011.

Connecting Youth. Transforming Lives
We see the hope and potential in every young person we meet and reach through community specific programs. We’re committed to extending Christ’s love to youth who otherwise are falling through the cracks in Greater Vancouver. Our purpose is to see these young lives transformed through relationships. It all starts with connection, the moment when a young person meets a Youth Unlimited youth worker who will be there for them for the long haul.

Motivated by our faith, we believe that transformed youth have the opportunity to transform communities, our country, and the world. We engage and equip youth to know and follow Jesus. Youth Unlimited Website

Jesters Theatre has two main goals:

1) To inspire young people to love theatre and dance – both acting and backstage.

Our students learn basic acting, dance and backstage skills such as lighting, set design and costuming according to their interests.

“One major motivating drive that pushes Youth Unlimited staff and volunteers at Jesters Theatre is the desire to see youth and young adults reach their full potential. Our theatre program equips students to discover and trust in their abilities, securing confidence to live a healthy life which opens doors to change our community and the world.”

2) To experience the joy of giving to families in need.

Every year since 2011, our staff and students decide on two programs to support – one local and one abroad.
However, in 2020, we felt it responsible to  fully serve our local community through the pandemic and supported St. Joseph’s Food Bank in Mission through a portion of our live-stream proceeds.

Since it’s inception, our Jesters family has given over $21,000 to both global and local causes!

Charities and Programs we have supported throughout the years:
Food For the Hungry Canada, Operation Christmas Child, Youth and Parent Adventure Retreats, Stepping Stones Teen Parent Program, TeamBASE (an outdoor recreation program for youth), The Julian Osis Legacy Fund,  MY House, and St. Joseph’s Food Bank.

Jesters Permanent Staff:

Ryan Scramstad: Artistic Director

Ryan comes from a background in professional acting and youth leadership. He is thrilled to be part of the Jesters team, where he gets to combine these two big passions God has put on his life. Ryan holds a Bachelor’s in Performing Arts and also completed the apprenticeship program at Pacific Theatre in Vancouver. He loves helping youth see their own inherent value, and believes the performing arts is one of the best tools in which to do that. Jesus didn’t put anyone here by mistake, and fostering the creative sense inside of yourself is useful in any area of life. Ryan is also an avid board gamer and enjoys throwing down the gauntlet to all would-be challengers.

Tiani Foster: Program Coordinator

Tiani joined the staff of Jesters in the fall of 2015. She first fell in love with live theatre when she played a Who citizen in a middle school production of How the Grinch Stole Christmas and has spent as much time backstage and onstage as possible ever since! She loves to work with children and youth and has enjoyed many years of serving with church ministries, summer camps, and local and international outreach programs. A few of her other joys include traveling, swing dancing, and anything with cinnamon.

Michelle Tydeman:  Admin. & Community Engagement

Michelle came to Jesters  a few years ago with a love of people, diversity, and community engagement.  She enjoys working with youth and helping create opportunities for them to experience how special they have been created. Her work history has seen her in a variety of roles including sales, administration, and a program coordinator.  A mother of three, blessed with a daughter-by-marriage, and wife to her best friend Pat, Michelle is a self-proclaimed extroverted-introvert who loves comical surprises, Aha moments and seeing the world through the eyes of a child.

Finally, a theatre company that welcomes… chickens!
